Gardeners will get a head start on a great vegetable garden this year with a free planner that pulls together the most important plant information in one spot.
"Every gardener will tell you there's an intimidating amount of information necessary to have a successful garden. That's why experienced gardeners seem to have a green thumb. But there's a lot of dead plants behind every green thumb." say Stormy Knight, owner of GoLocavore.com and designer of the Perpetual Garden Planner. "There is some plant information, however, that even experienced gardeners need to look up every year. If beginners knew that information from the outset, they would have more successful gardens, produce more food and feel that they too, have a green thumb."
The Perpetual Garden Planner is a spreadsheet that asks the user to find their local first and last frost date and select the vegetables and fruits the user is interested in growing. Once those two sets of information are determined, the Planner gives the earliest dates for starting seeds inside and out in the garden. The Planner also includes the amount of time seedlings will take to sprout if kept at 68 degrees, if each plant can tolerate cold or heat, if each plant can grow well in less than 6 hours of light, the number of plants to produce adequate food for two people, plant spacing for raised bed vegetable gardens and the square feet necessary to cultivate a particular plant for two people.
There is also a column for recording the estimated harvest dates that are included with seed packets and vegetable starts. Once that information is collected, it is easy to mark when a plant is going into the garden and then, with the provided information, determine harvest dates and when a new plant can be put into the same spot in the garden. This makes it much easier to produce up to 3 seasons of delicious fruits and vegetables, raising productivity and usefulness for backyard gardeners.
The Perpetual Garden comes with a 7 page Guide in Adobe PDF format which explains the information included in the Planner. The Guide also outlines how to use the spreadsheet and then transfer that information to real to-do items that make it easy to track exactly what needs to be done from week-to-week. The Guide also includes many vegetable gardening tips to help get the most produce possible out of the Planner.
The Perpetual Garden Planner and Guide are available in .xls format for Microsoft Excel, .numbers format for Macintosh Numbers and .csv so that it can be imported into almost any other spreadsheet format.
