The contenders for the "weirdest" news story for the month of April have been chosen by "This is True", a leading online source of weird-but-true news items.
This is True has been covering weird but true news since 1994, and has more than 100,000 online readers in over 200 countries.
In April, two stories stood out as "weirdest" says This is True author Randy Cassingham.
In the first, the Burlington (Vermont) Free Press reported that a hunter tried to claim a doe he had shot was actually a buck -- and "used epoxy and lag bolts" to attach a 10-point rack to its head, and had a photo taken of himself with his trophy. The photo led to an investigation and criminal conviction.
In the second nominated story, a police officer in Saanich, B.C., Canada, was dispatched to investigate "suspicious persons" in a parking lot. He found the pair -- having sex inside a trash dumpster.
Each month, two stories are chosen as the "weirdest" out of the 7-9 stories in the site's weekly lineup. At the end of the year, This is True's readers vote on "the" strangest true news story of the year.
